Excellent post. As a young indian woman I find this post like a breathe of fresh air. I have been reading more and more posts lately about how terrible Indian society is for women and I am so glad that people are finally speaking out! I have been saying it for years in my house and no one seems to get it! We need to stop lying to ourselves and face the truth! It is only then that we can change the perception of women being unequal.
Hmm, I think the mentality you have mentioned exists more in north india. In south India, there are people in higher caste who study medicine and engineering just for the dowry sake and their dowry is fixed once they get admission.
Concept of indian marriage is very funny. There is a telugu saying “one can tell hundred lies to get marriage done”. Another saying means ” lies that won’t affect day to day life”. But people misinterpreted that saying and are indulging in cheating and fraudulent practices. When you lie, life post marriage is going to be turbulent with lot of differences between both sides which results in domestic violence. Till date i don’t understand why educated opt for arranged marriage, concept of marriage was meant for illiterates of 19nth century society where men and women are forbidden to interact. Arranged marriage for a villager who lives in a conservative society makes sense but not for someone who goes to the university. Stupidity of Indians prevails in every aspect of life and they call it as great \Indian culture without knowing the actual culture.
Our Indian society had been following a strict, orthodox and rigid system of rules and rituals for a long time. Now, with the Information Technology blooming and changing our attitudes and thoughts, Indians are finding it extremely difficult to keep their traditions and modern trends together in their lives. They either stay confused how to react to this modern ways of living and remain illogical or fake an attitude mixing both and turn hypocrites. They want to treat women decently but after watching something on their websites, act like animals. They go around boasting of Indian culture but end up being monsters. Women venture into liberated thoughts and sophisticated ways of living but forced into tears and shame, especially in Delhi, the rape capital of India. Now India is famous for things for which Indians can put down their heads in shame. It is high time Indians learn to accept their cultural pressures and move ahead and face the world with an updated approach to life that is practically possible and ethically acceptable.
I am Indian myself, but i am from the Netherlands, never been in India though, but i met indian people from there and the culture disgust me since i was born. Very hypocrite indeed. Be honest and do not be ashamed to live without hrting other people. I live live in the karma way. Also they make a lot of children with other races, but the fake morality let's them not marry another race, very strange
Well said guys. You have defined and explained Society in a well defined manner and between the lines. I think its not India but this hypocrisy has merged in our life so deeply that at some points we have accepted it in our day2 day life. A few examples we can see in our daily life as a few things which we normally do or don”t but we expect from others in opposite ways. Keep it up All the best
We will talk about women empowerment but hamper our own daughters, we claim to be feminists but dont give up any privileges that come with being a woman, we bash honey singh on social media but dance to his songs at parties, we watch porn in parliament but ban it on the internet, we boast of being the land of kamasutra but ban movies with sex scenes, we make our kids study scince but shut them up when they question stereotypes, we happily accept a pornstar but still mock rape victims, we tell our daughters how not to get raped but dont teach our sons that they shouldn't rape women, we talk about equality of the sexes, but hardly take violence against men seriously, we want our sons to get good jobs but want our daughters only to get good husbands, we worship cows but treat women worse than animal, Talking about sex is a taboo but having babies and being the second most populous country is not, we talk about spreading love but ban gay marriages, we are proud of our art and culture but censor the same if its bold, What a Society, Hats off
