Both of them started fighting to the highest pitches. Something was wrong; rather very wrong. He snatched the car keys angrily and drove the car harder. She also rushed inside with heavy tears and didn’t want to see him ever after. With heavy hearts, both of them got bifurcated and struggled to live with each other. She got busy in cleaning her cupboard for Diwali, a song ‘Phir le aaya dil’ halted her action. This was the song which he used to sing for her. She was lost somewhere, but as the song ended, she remembered that she was living in her present and made her thoughts to disappear. Now while she was busy removing those old newspapers, she found a yellow paper bag. This bag appeared to be too old, yet it was new for her.
She checked to see whether it had anything and flipped the bag towards the ground. Her face glowed up as it had many things which she used to refrigerate before getting married. The bag had a CD, few greeting cards, chocolate wrappers, her listed romantic novels, two garba passes, some friendship bands and some dried roses. That’s the thing about girls; they like to ocean those things which had many impulsive memories. She separated each of them and exhaled. Those antiques now had that fresh scent of her environment which she missed few months back.
She opened those colored greeting cards and she looked very furiously at each one of them. She read all those messages which portrayed many wishes for her. But, still she continued to peep a white greeting whose owner was someone very special, “Neel”. Her high school crush, her sweetheart, her special friend and her love: Neel. He was her entire universe. May be she had preserved the best part of him and made it to her own. He had given this greeting card on her 22nd birthday because somewhere he had developed a strong liking for her but feared to confess. Then, there were two garba passes. Seeing this, she dated back to that day of garba when Neel had proposed her. And this was the only day when she replied to him with a note at the back of her pass. Yes, still it had those words which resorted connections with Neel. This brought a soft chuckle and slowly tears began to blind her.
The glimmer of Neel’s proposal was the world’s beautiful gift that she wanted to preserve even for her ten-thousand generations. Chocolate wrappers, still they had year’s fresh evidences when Neel used to gift her when he had reasons to arrive late only to see that beautiful angry faced lady waiting for him. She blushed with the glow of love and wished only for Neel to be back. After few seconds, she rolled her eyes on those dried roses and friendship bands. She picked those roses and with deep…slow…breathing she exhaled the fragrance of his love in the beautiful air. Somewhere, those pieces of antiques reenergized her scattered world into the piece of fine art. Delicious novels actually made her realize how crazy she was to enter the world of romanticism. Her eyes then fell on the pink covered CD. She quickly inserted that CD into her Laptop and her very favorite song ‘Phir le aaya dil’ which Neel used to play when he started feeling for her got into the action. The song had that magic which made her even more magical…It was the only language that could accompany her when she missed someone…and it was the most beautiful thing which was enough to be with someone you had loved so much. She was lost; lost in the mildness and lost in some strange yet very familiar world. She was deep with all those pictures which got evaporated after she got married to Neel.
‘Ahhha my favorite song’, he exclaimed. She turned around to check the voice and with a sigh of relief she replied,’ Neel, you?’ Her expressions were enough to tell him how much she missed him. He looked at those golden memories which she had preserved for her ten thousand generations. They both looked at each other and feelings passed between them. This was a heart and a beat conversation. The heart beats got louder and they could feel as if, the drops of water started creating oceans around. Both looked at each other to read something that happened hard before. Slowly, tears found shelter in their eyes and this time, there was no space to control the tears that shed from a heart and a beat. They realized the absence of those voices they loved so hard. After minutes silence, she hugged him tightly and with that same warmth, he hugged her back. This feeling made them realize that they found themselves back after a very long time.
After they hugged, he looked at her eyes and caressed her hair and wiped those tears which had ruled her heart so long. Now, the soul to soul language was filled with silence and these unspoken words were barely understood. All it was the ever-changing climate of the hearts which believed that love only needed personal affections and pure exhilaration. He smiled at her and touched her lips softly with his. She smiled back and also kissed him. After few seconds, she opened her eyes to recheck whether it was her same ‘Neel’ who went out angrily and got back to her for sharing Diwali moments together. “Stupid, how long I waited for you. And so much I missed you idiot’, she said. He turned her around, shifted her hair from her neck and tied the knot of the necklace which he had brought for her. ‘Aww..!! This is so pretty honey. Thank you for this’, she said. ‘But, not as beautiful as my beautiful angry Tanisha. Happy first Diwali Sweety’, he said looking at her. ‘Love you too sweetheart and this one is for you’, she said gifting him a ring. And then they lived happily ever after.
Sometimes, few moments make you cry and make you smile together and those moments have their violet delights and memories. So, these were the ‘Delightful Diwali moments for Neel and Tanisha’, may you share many such moments with your beloveds….

Hello from a 26 year old New Yorker :)
ReplyDeleteFirst off, I've just discovered the wonderful world of blogging on the web and yours is one of my favorites to visit, so thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences.
Secondly, I went through something similar where I stayed with someone for a while but having that "feeling" that he wasn't the one and that eventually I had to find the courage to move on. Your words of being terrified to be alone strike me so close to my heart because I too didn't know how in the world that would feel. But, I continued to move forward with the faith that it would work out.
When I finally did, I felt like a world of weight was lifted off my shoulders and I was finally ready to search for what I wanted for my life and love. And sure enough, with not as much time as others may have approved of passing, my now fiance came into my life and started becoming more than a friend from high school. Now I truly understand what it means to can't imagine going through life without someone.
Our life isn't perfect and the story we are writing for ourselves isn't easy but it's our story and our life. And that in itself is beautiful. He proposed at a special place to us, Rockefeller Center (terribly cliche but and nevertheless perfect for our story). And now when I think of New York City I think of it as place where our story has just begun.
The story of your romance is beautiful and I just wanted to thank you for sharing it :)
Ok, so this story made me get all choked up as I sit at my desk at work. I found your blog through a photographer friend of mine
ReplyDeleteI would share my complete story here but it would take too long. I met my current (well, we aren't dating now, but working on stuff on our own) boyfriend while I was dating my ex. We actually began to hang out days after the break up. He is just as romantic and a huge sap! I on the other hand have always dreamed of a guy like him, but am not as sappy. Sometimes his love for me freaks me out as weird as that sounds. No one has ever treated me the way he does and loved me as much.
Anyways, I wanted to just say I hope my story ends up like yours and that after we work on our crap (that was interferring with the relationship), I hope he and I can get married. You've inspired me that relationships right after break ups don't always end badly!
Chrissy
I've read your story before and re-read it again today. It's probably the best love story I've ever read on a blog. It's just beautifully written & graphically shown. Thanks for sharing.
